Caroline:
Well, about four weeks before the tour actually started on March 7, we booked our Rick Steves' tour. Honestly, I don't remember much from the time we booked it to the time we actually left, except the excitement I felt when my mom said, "we are going to Italy!" So, pretty soon we were getting packed. I was hoping I had not forgotten anything important, and then my dad was dropping us off at the Lexington, Kentucky airport. I hugged him and my sister good bye, and then we were off! Regan: I was so glad I took the advice of Rick Steves' Tours and planned for us to arrive in Venice the day before the tour started. Our voyage to Venice was very stressful with delays and almost-missed flights. Once there we were able to relax, get a good night's sleep, and be prepared for the next ten days of miles and miles of wonderful walking! |

Travel often comes with leaving things behind and for this trip we had to leave part of our family. My dad, Hill, and my, then 6 year old, sister, Mary Beth, were left behind on this trip. Of course we missed them and they missed us, but a few days away was great. Mary Beth had fun (all the junk food she could get!) My dad liked being with her ( father-daughter time!) And my mom and I had a great time! It was okay, although by the end of the trip we were ready to get back to them.
