Venice: Day 2

Caroline:
Yes I am here again. My mom will come in soon. For now, though, lets talk Venice.
Our day began when we met in the lobby at around 8:30 in the morning. We were tired from the last night, but eager to hit the road again.
We met up with our local guide Elisabetta (pronounced e-liz-u-bet-ta, remember to pronounce both ts)who led us around the city. She had lived in Venice all of her life and really knew the city. She told us about Venice's prosperous past, and its problems for the future. She showed us cool buildings (like the one below) and gave us a taste of how the city works.
Finally we reached St.Mark's Basilica and after a quick, yet beautiful tour it was time to move on to the next part of the day.

After our walk we headed, by ferry, to the Island of Burano. This was one of my fav parts of the trip! We first saw the island from afar: a tiny bright dot in a huge lak of water. As we approached I realized how much it was like Venice and yet how different. The town had similar houses yet the colors were so much more colorful! We came right after Venetian Carnival, but before Burano's Carnival, so the day we were there the streets were filled with large, different floats.
We walked the streets and looked at the lace( Burano's specialty!) For lunch I got a crepe. Soon, though, it was time to board our boat and go to Torcello. After the islands we had the afternoon free to explore, and we did! |
