As our guide, Martin, told us Venice is a lagoon with lots of tiny islands laced together by bridges. Each island is built on lots of wood from Dalmatia, an area in Croatia. Venice is sinking, at a rate of about 2 millimeters a year. Someday the entire city will be underwater.
We arrived in Marco Polo airport on March 6, 2014. We flew from our hometown to Chicago, and to Venice via Munich, Germany. So, our Italian experience began.
